Although our ward doesn’t cover the town centre, many of our residents are interested in current developments there. So, here are the latest significant goings-on:
St. Mark’s Square is the new development at Bromley South, behind the RBS (once Churchill Insurance) office building. This is a mixed residential and leisure project including a public square, hotel (Premier Inn), nine screen cinema, and restaurants including Prezzo and Nando’s. It is expected to be completed in early 2016.
The old town hall in Widmore Road may soon become a new upmarket hotel, backed up by some residential development behind. A planning application has been submitted.
The ‘Intu’ shopping centre (‘The Glades’ to everyone else) was controversially granted planning permission on appeal for five new restaurants bordering Queens Gardens – work is now in progress. More recently, they have gained permission for a ‘boutique’ cinema and internal rearrangement of the ‘Regent Arcade’ section.
Work is also continuing on inprovinig the street scene around Bromley North, with works moving into Widmore Road (between Market Square and Kentish Way) on May 26th. These works will include pavement widening.
Information about developments across the town are available on the Council’s website here. If you have any concerns or issues specifically relating to the town centre, then you can contact the councillors for Bromley Town ward here.
