Former Bromley Mayor Stands Down

A long serving councillor and former Mayor of Bromley has announced that she is standing down from the Council after sixteen years.

Councillor Anne Manning of Hayes & Coney Hall Ward, who was first elected with her two Conservative colleagues in 1998, will not be seeking re-election at the Council elections on 22nd May so that she can spend more time with her grandchildren and the rest of her family.

Anne served as Mayor in 2004/05 and has been involved in her local community since she moved to Hayes in the 1970s. Also being a keen local historian, she has published a book on former Prime Minister William Pitt ‘The Younger’ and his life in Hayes.

She has also chaired planning committees as well as the Social Care Health & Housing and Children and Young People’s committees.

Her two current ward colleagues, Cllr. Graham Arthur and Cllr. Neil Reddin paid tribute to her.

Cllr. Arthur said, “Anne has served the people of Hayes and Coney Hall with distinction for 16 years and we are indebted to her. Whether in her elevated role as Mayor, attending events throughout the Borough or dealing with the day to day issues which have arisen on behalf of her residents, she has employed her boundless energy to considerable effect and we shall miss her.”

Cllr. Reddin added, “Anne has been a lynchpin for the community here in Hayes and Coney Hall, and I know she will continue to put her heart and soul into the area, as well as the other interests she has supported so ably during her time on the council, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.”

In the forthcoming local elections, Peter Fortune, currently a councillor in another ward, will be hoping to succeed Anne.
